The six-hundred-month cap on a debt

This guide
Payoff counting stops at 600 months. A debt still unpaid then has no finish date inside this tool.
Why the loop stops
The payoff walk will not run forever. Six hundred months is the limit. A balance that remains is treated as not paid off on a useful horizon.
You will not get a calendar month fifty years out. Treat that debt as unfinished on these inputs.
What usually causes it
A minimum that barely beats the interest can take longer than fifty years. Raising the payment shortens the walk until a real date appears.
A payment at or below the interest never enters the “long but finite” case. It fails the interest test immediately and does not need all 600 months to say so.
The cap is not a term
The mortgage and car forms use the term you choose, and they are built to finish on that term. Debts use whatever payment you typed, so they need a safety stop.
Six hundred is not a recommendation to take fifty years.
This explains how WiseCalculator treats the numbers you type. It is not a lender’s offer and it is not advice for your loan.
More in Debt
- A store card and a bank cardBoth are rows. The store card often has the higher rate and the smaller minimum, so it receives less of any shared extra.
- Saving debts on the accountDebt rows stay on the phone. After you sign in, they are kept with the mortgage, the car, and take-home.
- A balance is required before a debt countsThe month, the payoff list, and the “you have numbers” check all ignore a debt until its balance is above zero.
