Naming a debt so the date is readable

The household month prints each debt’s name next to its payoff. Specific names keep those lines distinct.
The name is a label
Interest uses the rate and the balance. The name is for you. Two rows with the same name will look like duplicates on the month even when the balances differ.
The search list can fill a common card name. You can replace it with “Store card” or “Mom’s loan” if that is clearer in your household.
Custom names
A custom name is stored with the row on the phone and, once you are signed in, on the account. It is not sent anywhere else.
Renaming does not reset the balance. You will not lose the payoff math.
Paid-off names
When the balance is zero, the row leaves the month. The name disappears with it. Delete the row if you do not want it in the form anymore.
A debt that is “paid off now” because the payment clears it immediately can still show that phrase when the balance is positive but the month count is zero or less. Clear the balance when the money is actually gone.
This explains how WiseCalculator treats the numbers you type. It is not a lender’s offer and it is not advice for your loan.
More in Debt
- Total paid versus the balanceTotal paid is the balance plus the interest. The gap between them is the cost of paying on that schedule.
- Why a high rate still needs its minimumEvery row keeps its minimum. The extra is shared. A high rate does not automatically receive the whole extra.
- Adding a second cardEach card is a row. The debt total becomes the sum of the minimums, and any extra is shared across all of them.
