The car payment versus the cost of the car

The loan payment is only the financing. Insurance, registration, maintenance, and fuel are added on top.

Two stacks

WiseCalculator builds a loan from the price, the down payment, the trade-in, the sales tax, the rate, and the term. That payment is principal and interest.

Ownership sits beside it: insurance and maintenance and fuel as monthly amounts, and registration as a yearly amount divided by twelve. The car total is the loan payment plus those ownership costs, unless you say the loan is already in your debt list.

A dealer quote often stops early

A quoted payment can match the loan line and still leave out insurance and fuel. Those are the costs that continue after you drive away, and fuel continues after the loan ends.

Type the amounts you already pay or a plain estimate. The tool does not look up a policy or a gas price.

In the month

A car price is what makes the car join the household month. Until a price is typed, the car tile stays empty.

If leftover matters, type take-home too. The car total is one slice of that subtraction.

This explains how WiseCalculator treats the numbers you type. It is not a lender’s offer and it is not advice for your loan.
